Montgomery County is in located East Central Missouri. It was named for Richard Montgomery, a Revolutionary War General.
The seat and largest city are both Montgomery City. It has its southern border made up by the Missouri River.
Montgomery County borders Audrain, Pike, Lincoln, Warren, Gasconade, Callaway and Osage Counties.
Main highways through the county include I-70, US-40, MO-19, MO-94 and MO-161.
